DJ performances can be conducted using DJ software. This unit is compatible with two interfaces: the "USB sound card function" for output of digital audio signals with a computer, and the "MIDI interface function" synchronizing the operation of buttons and controls.

Settings must be made ahead of time on both this unit and the computer.

Settings on this unit
1 Connect this unit's USB port and the computer.
2 Press the [MIDI] button.
3 Press the rotary selector.
4 Launch the DJ software.

Settings on the computer
1 The DJ software can be operated by assigning the MIDI codes of this unit's buttons, controls, etc., to the various functions on the DJ software.

For Native Instruments' Traktor Pro 2 (ver. 2.5.0), Pioneer plans to release a TSI file on its website.
For Virtual DJ Pro 7, the software can be operated without assigning the functions simply by updating the firmware from the Pioneer DJ web page.

2 Make the audio output settings on the DJ software.

The preparations in 1. below are not necessary when using in combination with the sound device of another device, but in principle we recommend using this unit's internal sound card.

1. To use the USB sound card function
First, dedicated driver software must be installed on the computer. For instructions on installing the driver software and details on operating the USB sound card (audio interface) functions, see this unit's operating instructions.

With any of these standards, the dedicated driver software must be installed using the "Driver Software" CD-ROM included with this unit.

Mac/Windows
ASIO: Up to two sets of outputs of stereo audio signals with sampling frequencies of 44.1 kHz and bit depths of 24 bits can be output simultaneously.

Normal operation is not guaranteed in this case. We strongly recommend connecting only this unit to the computer's USB port when using this unit.

This unit outputs MIDI signals synchronized with operation of buttons and controls, so it can be used to control DJ software on the computer connected to the USB port. And also it light up, turn off LED's.For instructions on making the MIDI output settings, see this unit's operating instructions.

MIDI is a universal standard, so there are many DJ software programs that support MIDI control, such as the Native Instruments "TRAKTOR" series, Atomix "Virtual DJ", etc. For details, contact the DJ software manufacturer.

With DJS, this unit's USB sound card (audio interface) function can be used, but DJS control using this unit's MIDI control function is not possible (because DJS is not MIDI-compatible). Use the mouse, keyboard, etc., to operate DJS.

At the "Execute file" dialog on the Start menu, input "mmsys.cpl" and press "OK". An audio settings window opens. At the [Sound Playback] audio tab, select "PIONEER XDJ-AERO". Input the signal to this unit's channel 1. Signals cannot be input to other channels.
*This cannot be used at the same time as an ASIO driver.

Mac OS
At the [Output] tab at [System Preferences] -> [Sound], select "Audio output device", then select "PIONEER XDJ-AERO" from the sound devices.

When the mixer mode is set to XDJ-AERO, the tracks are input to this unit's channel 1. It is not possible to input them to other channels. When the mixer mode is set to PC, the tracks are input to this unit's PreMaster channel.

An application that operates on iPhone or Android phones that can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. Music file management and prep work can be performed like with the rekordbox(Mac/Windows), and the application can be used to load music files onto the XDJ-AERO.

The rekordbox GUI (messages, help, display of the manual, etc.) is provided in nine languages (English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, simplified Chinese and Japanese).
There are no limitations by language to the rekordbox library (titles, albums, artists and other data), but data input and display depends on the specifications of your mobile device and DJ equipment (e.g. XDJ-AERO).

DJ performances are possible using the rekordbox(iOS/Android) installed on the mobile device and the XDJ-AERO, without using rekordbox(Mac/Windows).
If you already have music files on your mobile device, the music files can be loaded onto the XDJ-AERO using the rekordbox(iOS/Android).
Playlists can be created using the rekordbox(iOS/Android), so the auto mix function on the XDJ-AERO can also be used.

The rekordbox(Mac/Windows) library (a database containing information on music collections, playlists, etc.) cannot be copied directly into the rekordbox(iOS/Android).

rekordbox (Mac/Windows) installed on a computer has functions for exporting music files and playlists to USB devices and mobile devices and for feeding back information to USB devices and mobile devices. This way, large numbers of music files and playlists can be managed on the computer while easily portable USB devices and mobile devices can be connected to this unit (the XDJ-AERO) and used for playback.
rekordbox (iOS/Android) installed on a mobile device also includes a function for browsing and selecting tracks on a USB device connected to this unit's (the XDJ-AERO's) USB device insertion slot.

When the mixer mode is set to the "XDJ-AERO", two channels worth of the DJ application's sound can be input to the XDJ-AERO. Set this as shown below.
